#67: Learning by Design: Professional Learning, Technology and UDL

This session will expose participants to a design for workshops that was used in Queen Anne’s County with over 70 teachers district wide in the fall of 2012. Building on knowledge of UDL, teachers applied what they knew about brain networks, the principles of UDL and connections to Common Core, barriers to learning and strategies for how we approach who we teach, what we teach and how we teach. This session will provide workshop materials, multimedia, student work, resources for lesson planning and teacher reflections on technology integration and implementation of UDL principles. The workshop website: http://easternshoreudl.weebly.com will be highlighted as well as resources for mobile learning.
Session Outcomes:
● Examine the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and applications for teaching and learning.
● Analyze how many of the methods in lessons present barriers to learning for some students.
● Examine the Planning for All Learners (PAL) Process in action (share tools, templates, examples from teachers in MD)
● Explore the Educator Checklist and other tools that provide flexible options in planning and redesigning instruction.
● Examine UDL in Action: Teacher feedback on how UDL has changed the way they approach teaching and learning.
We will have an edmodo group for our session.
